COACH MIKE STUMP RECEIVES HONOR

The West Virginia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame has named former CMHS Wrestling Coach Mike Stump as a 2015 inductee. A banquet will be held in Charleston on Sunday, October 25th, with the award presentation following. The honor is given in recognition of people for years of commitment as positive role models to student athletes.

Coach Stump is a graduate of Calhoun County High School and started 4 years for the Red Devil Wrestling team. In 1977, he organized and coached a youth wrestling team for the next ten years. Coach Stump became the head wrestling coach at Calhoun County High School in 1987, and held that position until his retirement in 2015. During that time, he coached 21 state champions and had 24 state runner-ups. Five of his wrestlers were awarded the “Most Outstanding Wrestler” at the state wrestling tournament. His team has won 10 LKC titles and 10 Regional titles and were state runner-ups in 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2015.

Coach Stump has given countless hours of his time instilling in young people the skills needed to succeed in all areas of life. He will be permanently recognized at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He is currently an assistant coach with the CMHS Varsity Football Team. CONGRATULATIONS!
